If you are hungry for some good home cooking and a place to run into old friends, come McKay’s Country Kitchen Tuesday through Saturday for breakfast and lunch.

Twonette and Dewayne Evans purchased the café in July 2021; they will celebrate their one-year anniversary on the 21st.  They joined the Chamber in April of this year.

“We have come back home,” says Twonette.  “At age 19, I went to work for First National Bank in Commerce.”

Dewayne is the morning cook, and Twonette and their daughter Emma-John do everything else – it seems!  They are open 6 am – 3 pm Tuesday through Friday and 7 am – 2 pm Saturday.

“I get to visit with people who are regulars, people I used to work with in Commerce and folks I haven’t seen in a long time,” Twonette says.

Also, people love to tease and joke around.  Sometimes they tell her they have paid before even ordering  Another regular customer says he ordered a glass of water and one toothpick, and got a half glass of water, no ice and no toothpick.

“It is work, but I am having a lot of fun serving Commerce customers, as well as some out-of-town people,” she says.

Come to McKay’s Country Kitchen for not just a glass of water, but a complete meal.

They are thinking of a slogan – maybe “Come hungry and we will fill you up!
